SERIES 3

AFRICANS OF THE DIASPORA

This captivating series featuring models; Bass Mbaye, Rapha Diamond, Deborah Otache and Munro, was photographed and curated by Kamdi Okonjo, in collaboration with photographer Chibuikem “Jameshothis” Onyeuwaoma and creative director, Joshua Okey-Uche.

Part three of the Africans of the Diaspora series spotlights the remarkable and often targeted beauty of African women—their hair. This installment aims to celebrate the diverse textures and styles that have been part of African heritage for centuries. While subjected to ridicule, these hairstyles also hold a marvelous historical significance, becoming a vital part of the African diaspora's identity.

By situating the models amidst nature, we symbolically convey the harmony between their natural beauty and the surrounding environment. It is a visual representation of the exquisite and authentic beauty that emanates from African heritage. Kamdi loves the books ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ by C.S. Lewis, and wanted to incorporate that mystical, beautiful, elegance into the shots while merging them with timeless African beauty.
