Afrofuturism and Pan-Africanism are influential movements that envision and commemorate the future of people of African descent. With roots in history, culture, and aspirations, these movements have acquired global prominence, highlighting the need to preserve and celebrate African heritage. Museums with African historical archives are crucial platforms that can serve as stewards of Africa's illustrious past while also contributing to Afrofuturism and Pan-Africanism.
Museums play a crucial role in preserving, researching, and presenting artefacts and narratives from the past. African history and culture have been marginalised for too long, resulting in knowledge and understanding disparities. By demonstrating the diverse and vibrant African heritage, establishing museums with African historical archives can bridge these gaps. These institutions would not only serve as repositories for historical artefacts, but also as venues for education, cultural exchange, and the promotion of a sense of pride and identity among people of African descent.
