  • Description: Account by Thomas Edward Bowdich (c. 1791–1824) of the Asante [Ashanti] kingdom (modern Ghana), which he visited in 1816 while representing Britain in successful peace negotiations. His observant and positive account of this visit reflects the power of the Asante kingdom at its height.
